The fog over the water thins,

the sheerest voile,

distills the light.

Here, an altar at your feet,

the stump of some long-tumbled oak

brimming with tender shoots,

delicate leaves

like tiny, upturned hands.

The trees along the beach

cannot contain themselves,

this soft explosion

of new-green.
