A Woman Wakes Up
I feel a dancing
down inside me, a
leaping-round-the-fire
in my blood.
I feel a long,
hard running
in my legs and
in my arms.
I feel a howl
opening my throat
to be let loose;
the roaring of the sea
against my ears;
a wildfire burning
in my eyes.
I feel my wings
beginning
in my shoulder blades,
the way green life
emerges
out of rock.
Toes planted in the
deep-sweet-secret earth,
I rise up, tall
as any tree...
stretch skyward,
fingers widening to leaves.
I breathe
and the clouds scatter.
