Fire and Ice

Late winter day,

at last, the sun succeeds,

burning a hole in the fabric

that drapes the sky.

I am waiting

for the gray cloak of winter

and of grief

to ease,

freeing my shoulders,

unburdening the breath.

Afternoon stretches into evening.

Above the shattered mirror

of the lake,

the slipping sun

ignites the sky,

echoed in every shard.
